Abstract
We examined whether linalool and other natural products affect airway MUC5AC mucin gene expression and production induced by phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA) from NCI-H292 cells. Cells were pretreated with each agent for 30 min and then stimulated with PMA for 24h. Linalool, β-caryophyllene and oleanolic acid inhibited the gene expression and production of MUC5AC mucin. This result suggests that these three compounds can inhibit the production and gene expression of mucin, through directly acting on airway epithelial cells.
